Frequently asked questions
Can I take photos or videos?
Absolutely! The sculptures and the carvers create amazing photo opportunities. The carvings are lit up at night and are spectacular. We really appreciate when our guests share photos on social media. Please tag us @chiseledyeg and use the hashtag #chiseled2024 so we can show them off too.
Why are the sculptures roped off?
The festival operates in a safe environment for all visitors. Each of the ice carvings in the competition area weighs more than 2,000 kgs (4,500 lbs). Thank you for never crossing into the roped-off area around the ice carvings at any time.
Why is the ice so crystal clear?
Carving ice is made by a special process that freezes from the bottom up, so it’s perfectly clear. It is a fascinating process, visit our supplier, Ice Culture, and check out some of their videos.
Where does the ice come from?
The ice comes from Ice Culture near Mississauga, Ontario. Ice Culture creates the best carving ice in Canada and it is one of the only large-scale carving ice manufacturing plants in the country.
What about the weather?
Chiseled is produced by an incredible production team that can accomplish pretty much anything, except control the weather. In 2023 the competition was delayed because of warm weather and the sculptors had to cover their work to prevent excess melt. But the temperature dropped and the artists were able to complete their pieces.
Is the ICE District Plaza handicap accessible?
Yes, the ICE District Plaza is accessible. Fresh snow is cleared promptly.
